Let me introduce myself:

I am a dancer

Welcome to my dance website! My name is Elena and I’m an amateur adult dancer.

I started dancing ballet towards the end of 2012 in college at age 25, when I first came to London to study a master’s degree. I joined one of the university’s dance societies, which offered ballet, jazz, contemporary and tap classes. I thought that, because I had done rhythmic gymnastics back in the day (until I was 18), I would find ballet relatively easy. Oh dear, was I wrong! The struggle of moving my arms and my legs at the same time with any sort of coordination was very real! However, I was hooked. Even though I graduated from my master’s the following September, I kept coming back to my former college’s dance society every year. And after the second one, I decided to start doing jazz, contemporary and tap as well. Now, after four years of being in the intermediate competition teams for the four styles, spending more time dancing than doing pretty much anything else and, really, just not having a life, I have decided to finally to drop dance at college and focus on ballet for a while to see how far I can go.

The first time I took a professionally taught ballet class was in April-May 2016 (the classes and rehearsals at college were mostly run by students) and since then, I have seen a massive improvement. I started working on the basics that I had never learnt and trying to erase the little terrible habits that I had been getting away with. Since then, I have started doing pointe work (from February 2017, although I have yet to start doing it in earnest) and a private ballet lesson every week in addition to my 1,5 hours-long weekly adult ballet class. I hope that now that I’m focusing on ballet, I’ll be able to see a better and faster improvement!

I’ll be posting regular updates on this website, and you can also follow me on my dance Instagram page: @elesdancing
